It’s difficult to write anything since my brother died. But maybe writing about it will help me process.
My 40th Year
I thought that who I was would change and thus how I was perceived would too. But I’ve found that the externalities of my identity have not changed at all (well, at least not significantly).
My Fourth Experience of Labor Pains
The combination of intrusions and the distracting children playing downstairs prevented me from finding my groove, so to speak. Contractions became contracted. They were felt less intense and got further apart.
By lunchtime, I had begun to feel like the baby wouldn’t come. Not only that the baby wouldn’t come that day, but that the baby would NEVER exit my body. I know it sounds silly, but I literally felt that way. And yet, here I was at the end of my pregnancy journey. So glad we can live by faith and not feeling.
My 2021 Top Three
In the midst of a global pandemic, God has added blessings to my family many fold, such that our cup runneth over.
My Third Experience of Labor Pains
In that moment, all I wanted was to see Archie’s face. So I asked if he could trade places with the midwife who knelt in front of me. They managed to make the switch. Now I leaned on Archie and searched his face for “je ne sais quoi.”

She’d had 2 hospital births which ended up being c-sections and was convinced that the operation would not have been necessary were it not for all the other interventions. So …
Waiting to Exhale (Part 2)
It was March 10. Italy had just expanded its quarantine nationwide…while South Korea, another hotspot at the time, seemed to be slowing the spread through aggressive testing and contact tracing. In the US, New York was emerging as a hotspot…it was increasingly feeling much too close to home. About a month before that, my office …
Waiting to Exhale (Part 1)
When my first two sons were born, my husband and I had family come and help us out with the transition. With my first, my Mom stayed with us for 3months and with my second, my eldest sister stayed with us for 6months. Their sacrificial service was an inexpressible help. It’s hard to imagine how …
Blogging Again
February 21 (in just 2 days) will mark 3 years since I started working in the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist World Headquarters. I wish I’d blogged (and journaled) more faithfully…just for a record of how I processed through the transition. In fact, I haven’t been good at blogging since getting married—that’d make it 5 …
